- Salad ingredients (optional)
- Chutney or yogurt sauce (optional)
- Flatbread (such as naan or paratha, optional)
Ingredients
- 450 gram ground meat (beef, lamb, or chicken)
- 1 large onion, finely chopped or grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced or grated
- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 tbsp ginger paste (or grated ginger)
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 1 tbsp cumin powder
- 1 tbsp garam masala powder
- 1 tbsp red chili powder (or paprika)
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter), for basting
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, finely chopped or grated onion, minced or grated garlic, chopped green chilies (if using), ginger paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder (or paprika), and salt. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly combined
- Knead the meat mixture for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and sticky. This will help to bind the kebabs and prevent them from falling apart
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent them from burning. Then, take a handful of the meat mixture and shape it around the skewer in a long cylindrical shape. Repeat until all the meat mixture is used up
- Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat. If using a grill, lightly oil the grates to prevent the kebabs from sticking. If using an oven, line a baking sheet with foil
- Place the kebabs on the grill or baking sheet and cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning them occasionally to cook evenly on all sides. If using a grill, baste the kebabs with vegetable oil or melted butter while cooking to keep them moist and tender
- Once the kebabs are cooked through and have a nice charred color, remove them from the grill or oven and transfer them to a serving platter. Squeeze lemon wedges over the kebabs for a tangy flavor
- Serve the Halal Seekh Kebabs hot with a side of salad, chutney, and flatbread, if desired
