Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup hot water
  • Chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch (20cm) round cake pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, oil or melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until well combined.
  • Stir in the hot water and mix until the batter is smooth. Add chocolate chips if desired.
  • Pour the batter into the greased cake pan and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick or cake tester comes out clean when inserted in the center of the cake.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once the cake is cooled, frost and decorate as desired using frosting, whipped cream, ganache, or other toppings.
