Homemade Pasta: A Step-by-Step Guide to Perfectly Crafted Noodles

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Additional flour for dusting

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • On a clean surface, pour the flour and make a well in the center.
    • Crack the eggs into the well and add salt.
    • Using a fork, gradually incorporate the flour into the eggs until a dough starts to form.
  2. Knead the Dough:
    • Once the dough comes together, knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
    • If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour. If it’s too dry, add a tiny bit of water.
  3. Rest the Dough:
    • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax and makes the dough easier to roll out.
  4. Roll out the Pasta:
    • After resting, unwrap the dough and cut it into smaller portions.
    • Flatten one portion slightly with your hands and dust it with flour.
    • Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into a thin sheet. You can also use a pasta machine if you have one.
  5. Cut the Pasta:
    • Once the dough is rolled out thin enough, you can cut it into your desired shape. For traditional spaghetti, you can use a pasta cutter or simply roll the dough into a log and slice it thinly.
  6. Cook the Pasta:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Carefully add the pasta and cook it for 2-3 minutes (cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the pasta).
    • Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
    • Once the pasta is al dente (firm to the bite), drain it and serve with your favorite sauce.
  7. Enjoy!:
    • Serve your homemade pasta with your favorite sauce, such as marinara, pesto, or Alfredo.
    • Garnish with grated cheese, fresh herbs, or a drizzle of olive oil, if desired.
